Is the Eve Cup hygienic?
Yes, the Eve cup is very hygienic. It is only necessary to thoroughly sterilize the Eve Cup on the first day of your menstruation. Boiling is the easiest way of sterilizing, and is done by putting the Eve Cup in a pan of boiling water for 3 to 5 minutes. During your period the good culture inside your vagina will keep the Eve Cup clean. This culture is a group of good bacteria that naturally keeps the pH of you vagina in harmony. Since the Eve Cup collects the blood and does not absorb it, this natural harmony is maintained. The absorbent function of tampons disturbs this culture excessively and increases the risk of infections.

Are there chances of getting Candida by using the Eve Cup?
Always make sure to take care of personal hygiene during your period, this eliminates any chances of infections. The risk of getting Candida (yeast infection) is very slim; it is even advisable for women who are sensitive to catching Candida to start using the Eve Cup. Since the cup collects the blood and does not absorb it, the natural pH inside the vagina is maintained. The absorbent function of tampons disturbs the pH, which increases the chance of getting Candida. In addition tampons often cause dryness and irritation.
When you use the Eve Cup there is no need to worry.
Do I risk getting Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS) by using the Eve Cup?
Toxic shock syndrome (TSS) is a very rare, yet life threatening, infection that women can get by using tampons. TSS can develop because of the absorbent effect of tampons; this ultimately disturbs the natural pH level. A tampon should never be kept in longer than 4 to 6 hours. The interwoven fibers of a tampon create an excellent breeding place for bacteria. By keeping it in at night, for example, the bacteria multiply and increase the chances of getting TSS.
The menstruation cup has never been associated with Toxic Shock Syndrome since the invention in 1930.
What is silicone?
Silicones are a group of chemical materials that are made from silicium – an element that is found in nature in the form of sand and stone. By combining the natural materials with oxygen, carbon and hydrogen silicone is formed. Silicone is a neutral material that does not affect the natural pH level, nor is it able to enter the bloodstream as it is a solid material (this is very different to breast-implants which are made of the gel-form silicone).
Can I be allergic to silicone?
The Eve Cup is made from 100% medical grade silicone and is not combined with other substances. People will only have allergic reactions when silicone is combined with latex or rubber. This soft material of silicone is unable to be absorbed in the bloodstream and does not affect the natural pH level of the vagina. It is hypoallergenic and absolutely safe even for the most sensitive woman.
